HOUSE WITH HISTORY

The building at Dzirnavu iela 53 was constructed in 1898, having survived the turn of the century and historical turmoil, hosting famous writers, politicians, and philosophers. The walls of the apartments are saturated with the scent of history, yet renewed with a modern taste.

Preserving the unique stylistic heritage of architect Edmund von Trompovisk, the house has been fully renovated, improved, and, thanks to its historical significance, included in the Latvian cultural heritage fund.

The building's façade combines eclecticism and Art Nouveau just like the name – romanticism and philosophy. In the 1930s, the house was home to the talented German philosopher and literary master Walter Benjamin, whose works inspired the renaming of Dzirnavu iela 53 to a special name – Benjamin's Romance.

INTERIOR

Quoting the world-famous philosopher V. Benjamin, “What is forgotten... has never been truly individual,” it can be affirmed that the house carries high quality, functionality, and design aesthetics, as it has always been accentuated, maintained, and remembered.

During the renovation of the building and the design of the apartment interiors, the respected uniqueness of the house has been harmoniously integrated with the modern and historical. Access to the apartments has been modernized, allowing them to be unlocked using a key, a numeric code, a fingerprint, or facial recognition.

Each apartment impresses with its sophisticated elegance and appeal. The apartments vary from spacious (about 140m²) to small (30m²), but all of them contain a touch of romanticism and enjoyment over the rooftops of Riga.

EXTERIOR

The building's façade has been renovated, preserving the unique style of architect Edmund von Trompovisk and various Art Nouveau elements, creating harmony while giving the building a modern appearance. The large window openings provide abundant natural light inside and give a great look and functionality to the façade.

The dominant colours of the façade – light orange and cream white – create a warm and energy-filled feeling. The colour combination ensures visual contrast and attracts attention, giving the building a memorable essence.
