The building at Dzirnavu Street 53 was erected in 1898, has survived the turn of the century and historical upheavals, and has housed famous writers, politicians, and philosophers. The apartment walls are saturated with the scent of history, yet restored with a modern taste.

Preserving the unique stylistic heritage of architect Edmund von Trompovisk, the house has been fully renovated, landscaped, and, thanks to its historical note, included in the Latvian Cultural Heritage Fund.

The building's facade combines eclecticism and Art Nouveau, just like its name – romance and philosophy. In the 1930s, the house was home to the talented German philosopher and literary master Walter Benjamin, whose works inspired Dzirnavu Street 53 to be named in a special way – Benjamin's Romance.
