The building at 53 Dzirnavu Street was constructed in 1898, has survived the turn of the century and historical injustices, and has hosted famous writers, politicians, and philosophers. In the 1930s, the house was home to the talented German philosopher and literary master Walter Benjamin, who inspired the name of 53 Dzirnavu Street to be called by a special name – Benjamin's Romance.
